An attempted coup or a military exercise?

We would never know, at least in near future, how the corridors of powers in New Delhi felt in the night of 16th and 17th of January.  But the bloody blessed ones sure seem nonplussed and jittery today, after Indian Express broke the news  that 2 military formations moved towards the national capitol in an unexpected and non-notified move.

The report goes on to allege that the central intelligence agencies reported an unexpected (and non-notified) movement by units of the 33rd Armoured Division towards the National capital, 150 km away.  Within hours there were reports of movement towards Delhi by units of the 50th Para Brigade based at Agra.
>:->

If true, the move by the Para Brigade must have sent chills up the collective spine of the wise old men.  LOL.

Whatever the Prime Minister has rubbished the report as has the Defence Minister.  The Indian Army too has  dismissed the allegations, but then would any mutineers admit to an attempted coup

BTW no one is talking about -
  • the attempted coup in Dakha, Bangladesh on 19th January, just 2 days later, barely 1500 Km away,
  • or the successful ‘coup’ in Maldives, less than 3000 Km away from Delhi, 3 weeks later.

The comments by the principal opposition party has been pathetic.  They seem to have gone to town calling the incidence as yet another instance of mal-governance or trust deficit.  They should remember that if in reality it had been a coup-d’etat, the lives of their leaders along with that of the ruling government would have been forfeit.  This is *not* the time or the act to be playing politics.

My Wicked half whispers, ‘Didn’t I write in this blog that the GoI should just sack the Army Chief?  Incidentally, that post was on the dot - on 17th January 2012, right when the not-so-alarming movements took place!’
