Best free CD, DVD, BD burning tool - ImgBurn 2.5.7.0

ImgBurn 2.5.7.0 is a free optical disc authoring tool.  If that confuses you, the simple explanation is that ImgBurn enables you to burn CD/DVD/BD discs. It is the easiest to use of all the CD/DVD/BD burning tools, including Roxio and Nero.  While the default controls are designed for ease of use by a beginner, ImgBurn is enabled with Advanced functionalities, accessible through context menus for more demanding users.  For normal CD/DVD/BD burning jobs ImgBurn is ‘the’ simple, safe, error-free software, and it is free.

There are two major drawbacks and one irritant in ImgBurn 2.5.7.0 though.
  • ImgBurn is still not enabled with ‘Multisession disc’ option.  It is possible in a convoluted way using cue files, and ‘convoluted’ is the word for it;
  • ImgBurn cannot directly copy a disc.  To ‘disc-copy’ we have to create an image file from the disc and then burn it back into a blank one;
  • ImgBurn as of 2.5.1.0 had become an (optional)adware for ‘UniBlue’, which is irritating; thankfully we can disable/uncheck it during installation.
If your CD/DVD/BD burning needs a tool capable of ‘multisession discs’, BurnAware Free 4.8 is the one to go for.  Personally I use ImgBurn for normal burning needs and use Burnaware free only when I need a multisession disc.

The List of (free) Software in the Latest Versions page has been updated to reflect this post.  Some errors and omissions of the past 2 weeks or so have also been corrected.  Please also read the disclaimer in the Licence page - it applies in full.
