Spot the Elephant this Ganesh Chaturthi

Today is a holy day for us Hindus, the day when we pray to the elephant God, Ganesh, also known as Vignesh (the eradicator of hindrances) or as Pillayar in Tamil, as the day in which he was born, created, the day in which he appeared to us.

Ganesh is known as the ‘first’ God, non essentially that He was the first one, but the first one to be evoked to safeguard our prayers and us.  He is revered as the one who eradicates all the hindrances in one’s way, even the troubles which might plague a worshipper when he/she attempts to pray.

In short, the one who should be invoked, as He is before every prayer in the Hindu religion, irrespective of the sect of belief to which a Hindu belongs.

Another aspect which I’ve felt, whenever I pray to God or Goddess or in the prayers to the ancestors which is a part of Hindu traditions, is that when such a prayer is offered, it drains the one offering the prayer.

Today on the birthday of the Elephant faced God, I’d thought of snapping up pictures of him, in my neighbourhood and posting them here - a 108 picture composite.  However, due to the tiredness ascribed above and because Chennai had been too hot today, I couldn’t do that.

Thus despairing, as I was walking back after a walk around the neighbourhood at just after 7 in the evening today, I had a glimpse of my Goddess, and that made my day, being the fruit of my prayers.

It is when I don’t get a glimpse of the divineness in a day do I go berserk and when I do have the benefit of the presence are my best thoughts and posts.

So here is a snap of the Vigneshwar who blessed me with his presence at my home.  Doesn’t the snap almost look like one shot in the wild?
