65th Independence day Google Doodle

A nice doodle by Google today on India’s 65th Independence Day showing, what else, by the Red Fort, Delhi.  As was last year, the doodle displays only on Google India webpage or people accessing Google from an Indian IP address.



The doodle reminds me of the packaging of the Red Fort range of crackers by Standard Fireworks and the Deepavali celebrations last year.

So what if college students think that

• the first President of India was Rajiv Gandhi (it was Rajendra Prasad);
• the Architect of the Constitution of India was A.P.J. Adbul Kalam (it was B.R. Ambedkar)
• Bal Gangadhar Tilak said ‘Give me Blood, I'’ll give you Freedom’ (his cry was ‘Swaraj is my Birthright’; 'Give me Blood was Netaji S. C. Bose's call)
• Jawaharlal Nehru’s famous address was ‘Brothers and Sisters of America’ (it was ‘Tryst with Destiny’;  Brothers and Sisters of America was the address by Swami Vivekanand)
• Vande Mataram was written by Subhash Chandra Bose (it was by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee)
• Mahatma Gandhi’s last words were ‘Satya Meva Jayathe’ (it was ‘Ram...Ram’)

Of all those utterances, I like Kirtana’s ‘I’m bad at Civics’, best.  I mean, it does not matter one bit if you don’t know who the last Governor-General of India was.  But if you think that information belongs in Civics and not History, you need help.

(PS: The last Governor-General was not Mountbatten, but Rajagopalachari;  Mountbatten was the last ‘British’ Governor-General of India)
