Inflation shows up in soap price

The Inflation, especially in food is the hot topic at present.  It has assumed so much importance that the CWC (Congress Working Committee) discussed it and flayed the Agriculture Minister Mr. Pawar as incompetent at best and in cohorts with business interests at worst.

A very severe indictment, indeed.
:-(

But I don’t know what the esteemed committee was doing for the past 8 to 10 months, when the prices were actually increasing.  As I pointed out in my post of 2nd December – SENSEX sense, the food prices have been increasing over the (then last 6 months or so).  But to get to an interesting incident I came across this week – a shopkeeper told me about this.

It seems the ‘Rin’ detergent bar, a Hindustan Unilever  Ltd’s (HLL) star product (they have so many), originally costs some Rs. 4.80/- about 8 months back.  But HLL in all its wisdom (presumably because the purchasing power of the people has increased) raised its price to Rs. 8/- or so – and promptly lost its market share.
:-D

Now it seems HLL is trying to find Rin’s actual market price.  They dropped the price to Rs. 7, then to Rs. 6 and now at Rs.5 and the shop keeper expects it to fall even further – lower than the original price of Rs. 4.80/-

If that happens, it will be a real laugh riot.  It should go into the B-School books as how not to finger around with a going product.  And I am sure some VP will lose his job, if not already.
