Ragging death and Parents' behaviour in society

A 11 year old girl died at Dumdum, Kolkata after ragging by class/school mates.  The death was allegedly the result of the mental trauma she suffered after being harassed by her seniors.

The incident’s aftermath saw hundreds of people protesting at the school. CNN-IBN reported that the protesters consisted of parents of students who ransacked the school in Dumdum. The police had to use batons to disperse the angry protesters who destroyed a lot of school property during the rampage.

Aindrila Das, a 5th standard student was allegedly “heckled and tortured” by some Class 8 students of the school for not paying them Rs. 100 that they wanted.  Not to be callous, but seems those “Moe’s” really turned “Aindrila ‘Calvin’ Das” into hamburger casserole.

But that was not the point of this post.  Matters of ragging or hazing is for the enlightened souls at the Education departments and Ministries (of both the State and the Union governments) to act on.

What this post is about the behaviour of the parents.  Just watch this video grab of the school being ransacked.  It is more sickening without audio.

If the unfortunate death of Aindrila Das was due to bullying and abusive behaviour by fellow juveniles, what do these so-called mature, grownup women and men display towards fellow citizens - restraint and level headed behaviour?

What message do they send?  That abusive, violent behaviour is alright for them to commit, but it is not permitted by anyone else?

I personally would not be surprised if children of these ‘civilized’ parents were themselves involved, maybe not in this disturbing incident, but in at least some other cases of bullying behaviour.

A seed usually doesn’t fall far from the tree.
