Back in February 2012, Julia Gillard managed to shake off the jinx after meeting our PM Manmohan Singh by defeating her still smarting predecessor Kevin Rudd in a party poll. That day she managed to carry the party 71-31 with her.
Did she learn her lessons and keep away from India? No, I guess she does not read this blog. She traipsed and tripped her way (pun intended) to New Delhi eight months later and fell for Gandhi.

Now, roughly another 8 months later, she has been literally spiked to her gills by the scheming, plotting and ambitious Kevin Rudd. This time around, Kevin Rudd carried the party with him 57-45.
The irony is that this is only the second time a sitting first time PM had been ousted by her own party in Australia. The first time? Of course it was Kevin Rudd, who was ousted by Julia Gillard in 2010.
The mess and confusion in Australian Labour Party has been best summed by by the Conservative leader Tony Abbott, who cautioned the Australians, "In 2007 you voted for Kevin and got Julia. In 2010 you voted for Julia and got Kevin. If you vote for the Labor party in 2013 who knows who you will end up with."
