Mozilla Firefox 12 to be released today

In a few hours from now, Mozilla’s browser Firefox 12.0. will be released to the public.  As usual the Firefox 12 downloads are available to everyone from the Mozilla FTP site as of this post.  The various language Firefox browsers can be downloaded for Windows OS from here.

If you are interested in builds for other OS, going one step up to the parent directory will provide the links.  The official Firefox webpage as of this moment links to Firefox 11.0. and not to the newer version.

Mozilla Firefox 12.0 has been available from other tech support sites for the last 2 days or more.  If you are curious about what is new in Firefox 12, the release notes are here [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/12.0/releasenotes/].

If you ask me, there is nothing special about this version of Firefox, except for some bug fixes and modifications on the way it updates, how it displays ‘find in page’ results to you, and other cosmetic changes.

The much awaited new UI, new Tab page and other improvements have been put off to version 13.0.  The much awaited fix to memory leaks hasn’t been done yet with the Firefox 12.0, eating up almost 100 MB of RAM with a single tab.
:-(

People have reported the irritating intermittent freezing which appeared with Firefox 10.0. and lugged on with version 11.0., has been fixed.  If so, it would be a marked improvement.

Overall, it would have been better to call this Firefox release as 11.5 or something instead of calling it Firefox 12.0.  In my limited 2 days of browsing, it does seem that the UI (User Interface) has undergone some improvements and the response is quick.  If Chrome doesn’t watch out, Firefox 13 might well become the favourite of many who switched to Chrome of late.

My Bored half blurbs, ‘Reminds me of an old Firefox biting into IE 6 image of several years back.  Only with 13, it might well be Chrome instead of IE.
