Move over Commonwealth Games, Grand Prix is next

Five Champion cyclists have pulled out of the Games but far more fast racers are due in the Indian Formula-1 Grand Prix, to be held just over an year from now.

Guess what?  The Grand Prix track is under construction near Delhi at Greater Noida.

Why Noida, I never understood!

If anything, the GP should have been held near my hometown of Chennai, which has become the automotive capital of the country and boasts of the only F-3 racetrack in India; Incidentally Delhi was never in the running for GP track earlier.

Guess too!  The preparations are ‘well’ underway, meaning that the construction is far, far behind.  At present, Bernie is unconcerned, but the Turn-1 of the race track straight leads into a ‘lake’!

Admittedly, that ‘lake’ is the stagnant water from the unprecedented rains Delhi has witnessed, but it means that any heavy rains is going to make it the only GP where cars actually race ‘in’ water.
Guess more!  The F-1 had signed  the deal with the IOA, as the ‘promoters’, headed by, the one and only Mr. Suresh Kalmadi.

Gee whiz!

The track is supposed  to be ready by July 2011 – are you holding your breadth?

Guess again! The CWG cost us an alleged Rs. 70,000 crores and tourists were supposed to flock like bees to honey, but the prospective tourists are actually bad mouthing us, and I doubt whether F-1 GP would do better.

Last Guess! Even the Aussies are losing money hand over fist with their own GP at Melbourne and their tax payers are picking up the bill.  More worrying, it seems their GP has never made money in 5 years.  Guess who is going to end up paying some thousand of crores here?
