The Online Tharpana Sankalpam Generator version 0.7.5 is a major update. After some 46 hours of trial and error, finally managed to figure out how to mail merge from 2 different google spreadsheets, by matching a particular key field – that is the date in this case. The technical explanation will follow later, but this code rewrite makes it possible to choose the various dates, and produce a Sankalpam for the particular date.
Saturday, the 09th of January 2016, is the Amavasya (தை அமாவாசை). As has become the practice, the Sankalpam for Amavasya 2016 Tharpanam Procedure in Tamil is now online.
The Thai Amavasya is considered significant as this is the first Amavasya or the New Moon in the Utharayana Punya Kalam or the Northern movement of Sun. It is believed that the ancestors visit the material earth (and us) during their daytime, that is the Dakshinayana period starting sometime around the Mahalaya Paksha period. With the onset of Utharayana, the Thai Amavasya is considered special - as a sort of grand dinner or a send-off feast for the ancestral spirits.
