Sankaranti Pongal puja vidhi Tamil 2016

Friday 15 January 2016 is the day of Thai Pongal (தைப்பொங்கல்) or Pongal (பொங்கல்), the winter harvest festival celebrated by Tamil people at the end of the harvest season.  Like every other festival, the day will also be celebrated as Makar Sankranti or Lohri (one day earlier) or Bihu in other parts of India.

2016 is going to be very special Cattle (Mattu) Pongal (மாட்டு பொங்கல்) too, as the ban on Jallikattu or Bull Fighting, enforced over the last 4 or 5 years has been lifted by the Union Government.  In Tamil Nadu, it is traditional to perform - what else but a Pooja - on the occasion.  In keeping with popular request, here is the Makar Sankranti or Pongal 2016 Pooja vidhi in Tamil, as a free PDF download.  It also includes the puja for Mattu Pongal day, as part of the Sankaranti puja, for those who are interested.
