No Summer Solstice Google Doodle for India

Google is celebrating the Summer Solstice with an animated Google Doodle.  Summer Solstice or to be more precise the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere is today, Friday, 21st June.

Google Doodle features an animation of five swimmers bobbing in and out of the water as a wave splashes over them.  Yeah!  You read it correct.  Even though Google is 6 letters, there are only 5 kids bobbing in the sea (?) or at least a wave pool, with the last swimmer’s snorkel taking the place of ‘l’.  The rest of the letters are formed by the swimming caps of the kids.

Google has not released the Doodle in the India home page - maybe because of the havoc caused by the early monsoon rains over Western and North Western India - from Mumbai building collapse to Uttrakhand flash floods.  Remember, they did not put up a Google Doodle for the New Year’s eve 2013 in memory of the Delhi gang rape victim and instead chose to display a simple candle.

Here is the 2013 Summer Solstice Google Doodle.

BTW today is also the Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.  So Google Australia page had a Doodle celebrating the Winter Solstice with a pair of hands knitting a woollen gloves.  The glove of course formed the letter ‘Google’.  Both the doodles are the artwork of Christoph Niemann.
