Ferrari F138 unveiled without ugly, stepped nose

Yesterday, Ferrari unveiled their new 2013 Formula-1 car, christened F138.  That is not the news.  The real news is they have junked that stepped nose design introduced in their 2012 car.  As written before, the stepped nose, which looked more like a bent or broken nose, sucked!  The Tifosi, for sure, were disappointed.

That ugly bump also seem to have sucked the F2012’s speed as Fernando Alonso, if we care to remember, was 1.5 seconds off the pace at the start of the season.  Seems Scuderia Ferrari have learned some lessons.
It is reported that Ferrari had problems with their own wind tunnel while designing F138.  Perhaps they problem did exist, and went unnoticed when they designed the F2012.

The wind tunnel at the Maranello factory is reported to have given contradictory results when they set about to design the Ferrari F138.  In typical European fashion they solved it by working on F138 car exclusively using the former Toyota F1 tunnel in Cologne.
:-D

Gary Anderson of the BBC is of the opinion that the gains in F138 are not as good as that of the McLaren Mercedes MP4-28 unveiled one day before that of Ferrari F138.

But the Tifosi must be hoping not.  It has been five seasons since Ferrari won the Drivers Championships, Fernando Alonso missed out by 3 points in 2012.

Scuderia Ferrari have not won the Team/Constructors Championships for four seasons now.  They missed out by a whopping 60 points to Red Bull Racing-Renault last year, which is more worrying.

While we wait for the actual testing and the season to begin, here is a 3D Animated GIF of the Scuderia Ferrari F138.  Images are downloads from the Ferrari website/photographs and animation stitched together in Paint.Net. (cannot upload the AGIF or APNG images into Blogger - you can download them from here)

OK!  here is the animated GIF which actually works - thanks to Paint.Net and UnFREEz from whitsoftdev.com.

Enjoy Tifosi.
