Do Religious blogs do well?

For a long time I never understood why politicians resort to religion in an attempt to boost their ratings and chances.

Whether it is -
  • Mitt Romney trying to play down his Mormon faith;
  • Obama’s campaign repeatedly emphasizing his Christian upbringing;
  • Narendra Modi paying lip service in Sadhbhavana Yatras;
  • Mamata Banerjee coining a new word called Jumnabar;
  • Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalloo Yadav bristling at some perceived persecution of Muslims; or
  • Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi attending Iftaar parties.
All that changed over the course of last week with 2 posts on Ganesh Chaturthi.  Can you believe it?  More than 1000 shares for a post when this blog isn’t even viewed half of that score in a given day?

It was so overwhelming that the blog’s Alexa rank for India dropped to around 90,000 from twice that & the Global rank inching below 1.5 million.  No wonder monkeyshine nutworks was “Gold Certified” and would take its place in the Domain Hall of Fame at NerdyData [http://nerdydata.com/madmadrasi.net#GoldMember]!

If only every sharer had donated $5 to my favourite charity - me!

It seems anything to do with religion will become an instant success - even a blog.  No wonder Baba Ramdev and Nithyananda are rolling in hundreds of Crores by peddling in the name of cures what is allegedly snake oil.
:-P

Whatever, the hits are welcome and to me signal a Red Twilight - which is a Sailor’s delight!
