A must watch interview on TV today

If you have been reading this blog for any length of time, you will know that I am not particularly enthused by the policies, actions or antics of either the right wing or the left wing political parties or movements in India.

I also don’t like any other divisive social, political or ideological movements and don’t / won’t give the time of the day to them.

Thus it may come as a surprise that I am eagerly looking forward to the interview of Raj Thackeray, the chief of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) with Arnab Goswami in the Times Now TV.  The full interview is scheduled for 13:30 IST today - Sat, 8th Sep 2012.

I don’t agree with many (most?, almost all?) of the policies, statements and actions of either the Shiv Sena or the Raj Thackeray led offshoot MNS - seeing that we, the ‘Madrasi’people (basically Tamilians) were the original target of the Shiv Sainiks in the 60s and 70s.

But after transiting regularly through Mumbai for 7 years and having stayed, resided at Mumbai for another 7, I can understand the basic points behind the Shiv Sena / MNS attitude, policies and actions.

While staying at Mumbai there used to be occasional discussions on the subject of Maharashtra for Marathis concept, among my friends - none of them from work or have anything to do with sea.  The gang was also mixed - Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannadiga, a couple of UPites, local Muslims & Catholics.

Often it used to be pointed out that the people from Bihar and UP have effectively shut out Marathi people (in Mumbai and surroundings) from dairy farming, corner pan shops, building watchmen and security.  A fit of guffaws used to accompany the other comment that even the native Kolis (fisherfolk) were being pushed out by the landlocked people from UP and Bihar.
:-P

Thus I did understand the points behind the sentiments, but never could understand the resort to violent means to make their point.  And never still do.

What I look forward today is to watch that TV interview - that is the electricity god (goddess) of TN willing.  LOL.

I already like one thing - the Raj Thackeray glass frames.  Next time I change my glasses, I want to try out a similar frame.
