Manmohan Jinx makes him ideal US special envoy

Not for a moment am I suggesting that our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is an extraordinary statesman and trouble shooter.  But in him, I think India has an unparalleled and unheralded WMD (Weapon of Man Destruction).

This ‘now, why didn’t you think of it’ moment struck in the early hours of today, while I tossed about in the bed, half awake, in between the blessed peace of sleep and the disturbed misery of mosquito bites.  Which says more about the waste and hygiene management of the Chennai Corporation - whose employees have been gifted a ‘Bonus’ by the TN Government.
:-P

Jokes apart: Our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,:
  • In 3rd week of Nov 2011 visited Singapore and met the PM Lee Hsien Loong.  Within 6 weeks, the           Singapore PM has had to take a whopping 36% pay cut.
  • In mid-Dec 2011, went to Moscow, and by Jan 2012 Vladimir Putin’s world seems to be falling apart.
  • In Oct 2009, met the Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner at Delhi.  She is was scared for weeks about thyroid cancer, which proved untrue.
  • In Jul 2010, met with the British PM at Delhi.  In August 2011, David Cameron had to cut short his vacation because of UK riots.  Last month Cameron stood isolated in the continent and faced his ugliest moment yet, in his own Parliament on his EU Treaty veto.
  • In Oct 2010, met then then Japanese PM Naoto Kan on a jaunt to Tokyo.  By Aug 2011 poor Naoto Kan was humiliated and run out of office.
  • On the way back met the Malay PM Najib Razak.  In Jul 2011, the Malay PM faced criticism at a crackdown on protestors and this Jan 2011, his political rival is finally free to focus on toppling the PM.
  • In Nov 2010 met South Korean President Lee Myung-bak at Seoul.  Within 3 weeks the Korean had to face the ‘most serious incident’ since the Korean War, when North Korea shelled the South.
  • In Dec 2010 met the IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn at Delhi. Within 6 months DSK was arrested on rape charges, had to resign and kiss any chances at French Presidency goodbye
  • End Dec 2010, met the the ‘Little Napoleon’ who strutted into Delhi.  Today Sarkozy seems all set to lose the upcoming election for French Presidency.
  • In Apr 2011 met the then Thai PM Abhisit Vejjajiva at Delhi.  Within 3 months the Thai lost his job in a landslide victory to the Opposition.
  • Also in April 2011 met the new Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff at the BRICS summit (Sanya, China).  By Jul 2011, she was surrounded with corruption scandals and intemperate comments and looks more and more like a lame duck President - in her very first year of office.
  • In May 2011 met the Afghan President Karzai at Kabul.  In Jul 2011, Karzai suffered a serious setback in politics and personal power when his half brother Ahmed Wali Karzai was killed.
  • Met the German Chancellor Angela Merkel in May 2011 at Delhi.  Look at what she had to put up within 3 months - the Euro mess and Euro zone bailouts.
  • In Nov 2011, pulled aside the Aussie PM Julia Gillard at the ASEAN Bali summit.  By the New Years Eve, there are doubts whether she can win the next elections or whether the core Labour constituency is still with the Aussie.
  • Has met President Obama on half a dozen occasions (?? I think ??).  No wonder the White House press secretary Jay Carney shrugged ‘Markets “go up and down”’ about the Presidents’ approval ratings.
  • Has met both the Chinese President Hu Jintao and the Premier Wen Jiabao at various forums - G20, Davos, BRICS, ASEAN, SCO etc.  Why should we be surprised that the Chinese are in trouble with Uighur and Tibetan unrest or worried that their real estate bubble is about to pop?
  • Has found the two Paki sons-of-mothers - Ten percent Zardari and ‘Honest’ Gilani - constantly under his feet.  With the two Generals Kayani and Pasha keeping their powders dry, the Paki duo would be lucky to lose only their jobs.  With these 4, one has to remember (and ‘fondly’ hope) that the PM Manmohan Singh met the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in July 2009 (Sharm El Sheikh) and the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in June 2008 (Delhi).

So much for this morning’s brain leak.  Time to get breakfast!

My Naughty half natters, ‘And they call Harbhajan Singh the Turbanator?

PS:  There is a famous quip about the 1972 Simla Agreement.  It is said Zulfikar Bhutto was so overcome with the non-stop talking of Sardar Swaran Singh that he finally caved in with ‘Give me the Pen.  I’ll sign anywhere, anything you want’  LOL.  Perhaps we now have a Sardar (Manmohan Singh), whose mere invite for talks would make others cave in.  ROFLMAO!!
