This devil in Jack Higgins, can wait a bit, if necessary

Over the Pongal weekend and while the internet went dark (including a minor contribution by this blog), friends slipped me a couple of books to pass the time by.

The first was the ‘A Devil is Waiting’ by Jack Higgins, released just in time for Pongal and for people taking the flight home from Heathrow to hook on to.

A Devil is Waiting is the #19 novel of the long running, quite-good, not-so-good, oscillating Sean Dillon series.  Like many authors in 2011, it appears Jack Higgins is also planning to move on with another character.

In ‘A Devil is Waiting’, both Brigadier Charles Ferguson and Sean Dillon have roles which aren’t up to their usual importance.  Ferguson is regularly talked back and overruled by Miller and Roper;  the antics of Holley takes precedence over the actions of Sean Dillon; and Hanna Bernstein who was killed off by Jack Higgins in an earlier novel is back in a new avatar as Sara Gideon.

That apart, the novel is a good read on a flight or on a weekend when the rambunctious crowds discourage a spin through the city.  A typical Sean Dillon novel with lots of action and adversaries who are focussed on their jobs - getting Ferguson with his gang killed and bagging a few Presidents and Prime Ministers on the side.
:-)

So if you are an avid Sean Dillon fan, it is a must read for this weekend.  If not catch up with this story on one of your upcoming flights.  As said, this devil can wait a bit.

My Pondering half prattles, ‘Seeing the length of the chapters, it appears that Jack Higgins is not yet ready for the Kindle/Nook/iPad age’
