Kapil Sibal wants to censor M.F. Hussain

This actually was meant to be a post on ‘how to recognise an Air Head when you see one’ - which might yet have to be written.

But since I’m preoccupied with some things personal and private, with the thought that such a post will have to be long - in thinking, presentation and writing, I decided to post this short one.

The other more important reason is that I’ve not fed the blog for the past few days - which is a major no-no.
So ‘once-my-favourite-intellectual-but-now-turned-a-certified-Air-Head’ Kapil Sibal is at it again.  As blogged earlier the department under him did prove themselves to be idiotic decision makers, which they themselves retracted partially.

My Wicked side whispers, ‘Since they retracted it partially, does that make them semi-idiots?’

What the incident proved was that there was no application of mind and it was not a justifiable, logical, transparent decision.  Not that the partial roll back is any of that - which is a different matter.

Anyway, the ‘once-my-favourite-intellectual-but-now-turned-a-certified-Air-Head’ Kapil Sibal, hasn’t learned anything from it.  Having run out of media, politicians, parliamentary opposition and his peers in a court of law to bully, he seems to have latched on to the poor Indians on the internet.  Kapil Sibal is for censorship of the bloggers, the Facebook, Twitter, Orkut users and what not.  Google has reportedly and correctly told the Air Head off.
  1. Now, let me be very frank.  I personally feel that people who are in public life, or people who engage in public activities possible today, like blogging and other social media interactions, should be careful - should try to endorse and follow a self imposed code against certain behaviour which might evoke emotional response - at least in India; in simple terms be diplomatic.
  2. But all the same, artistic and intellectual freedom as well as free speech should never, ever, be even sought to be curtailed.
BTP, the reason why I disparage Kapil Sibal as an Air Head is because of an article written by him just 5 months back to the day, on the demise of M.F. Hussain, espousing freedom of expression.[http://www.indianexpress.com/news/those-who-targeted-husain-should-reflect-they-were-targeting-the-rich-soul-of-india/801743/0].

To quote certain lines (written by Kapil Sibal):
He was worried that a section of Indian society was targeting him for reasons he could not understand.
I could sense his unease at having to cope with the vicious assaults on his free spirit. He was loath to be questioned about the freedom reflected in the stroke of his brush. … His paintings of Indira Gandhi as Durga reflected his deep understanding of contemporary events.
He realized that in the environment in which he was caught, the right to think freely and the right to move freely would be in jeopardy.
There is nothing ugly about his paintings. Look at his canvas and you are transported to another world of festivity and colour, a world in celebration not in dismay.
Those who targeted him should reflect that, perhaps in attacking him, they were targeting the soul of India: rich, diverse, egalitarian and secular.
The guy who is talking about censoring uncomfortable points of view today, is the same guy who justified M.F. Hussain’s paintings as nothing ugly but rich, diverse, egalitarian, free spirited and secular, ~150 days back.

With that I rest my case and leave you to conclude for yourself - read both the quoted articles, my readers, and decide whether you find Kapil Sibal an Air Head or not?

(For the Two Face image, I thought of using Jonah Hex, but then he is supposed to be a good guy.  More appropriate seemed Harvey Two Face from Batman)
