Time to Dazzle - to be the Anvil or the Hammer!

The Seoul G20 summit is a few hours from now and the time for the leaders there to seize the moment.  And of the 20, there are only two who have the initiative, the capacity and the intellectual honesty to dazzle.

One is President Obama and the other is our own beloved Prime Minister Singh.  I’ll of course disparage the others as to why not later, but let us look at why these two?

Together they represent almost 2 billion people in this planet.  If they actually live up to  their intellectual brilliance (which might be termed as intellectual arrogance), they would end up speaking for all the unspoken (apart from the G20), which might represent as much as 3.5 billion humans.
Now, I am not even remotely suggesting that they ‘gang-up’, but as I do watch World Wrestling Entertainment on TV, I would prefer if they ‘tag-team’.

There are very few moments in life and in human history when people, and the right people, are at right places, with right coordination and the right inclination to do something good.

OTOH, evil doesn’t need any such team - even one alone, like Hitler or Pol Pot or a Stalin is enough - even today we have such misguided regimes - from ‘A’ to ‘Z’

(OOOhhh!  I like that!  It should be in someone’s speech) :-E

My quarrel with both the PM and the Prez is that they have not been living up to their intellectual potential.  This is different from when people don’t live up to their expectations.  Expectations are from others, expectations may be on people who might not have the capacity or the ability to fulfill them.  But these two are different.  They have the intellectual capacity and the ability - they have been remiss in only the will to put forth.

OTOH, when they do speak up, as the President did during his campaign or when the PM did over the weekend - ‘not in the business of stealing American jobs’ or ‘Not an expert on US economy, so can’t tell you what to do’, they are stunning, believable, worth your trust, hope and support.

In this, I foresee -
  • the British are confused and the young Mr. Cameron would be the first to see the brilliance of the President and the PM.
  • President Sarkozy of France is looking for an out, and would jump at anything right now.
  • Japanese PM Naoto Kanis and the Koreans are beset with problems and would gladly follow the lead.
  • Ms. Gilliard of Australia seems very practical and unlike her predecessors is not head strong and would go along.
  • I doubt whether the Russians even understand what is happening inside their own country, leave alone others.
  • Argentines, Canadians, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa and the Turks and the Saudis will go with the wind, but expect them to hedge.
  • Less said about Berlo the playboy the better.
  • That leaves us the with troublesome three - the Brazilians, the Germans and the bogeyman - China.
    • It shouldn’t be difficult to talk some sense into the combative Ms. Merkel.
    • Even if President Lula is hesitant, it is Ms. Dilma Rousseff who will take over in the new year and being an economist herself, would again see what the two most brilliant people in the planet are talking about.
So, dudes, don’t fail us!

Else you’ll have to face the insults of mad.madrasi and you’ll fare better with Mr. Oliphant.  Even though I can’t draw, this would be nothing :-P
